More about the job

About the job

Scotland’s Citizens Advice Network is an essential community service that empowers people through our local bureaux and national services by providing free, confidential, and independent advice. We use people’s real-life experiences to influence policy and drive positive change. We are on the side of people in Scotland who need help, and we change lives for the better.

Our vision is for a Fairer Scotland where everyone has the advice and information they need to realise their rights, and that the barriers to accessing those rights are effectively challenged.

Our Network mission:

  • We help people navigate systems and access their rights
  • We build resilience in local communities
  • We support the realisation of human rights
  • We help change policies and practices to ensure they work for people

About the job

Citizens Advice Scotland has an action plan produced by our external Data Protection Officer which sets out a clear roadmap to delivering best practice in data protection.  The Project Manager (Data) is a new role who will be responsible for ensuring that action plan is implemented.  The successful candidate will have project management experience, good attention to detail and strong people skills.  This role will suit someone who has an interest and affiliation with data and detail, and can translate this into a passion for ensuring our data continues to be instrumental across the Citizens Advice Scotland network in Scotland.

Experience of bringing people together to deliver on projects, and excellent communication skills will also be required.  While some understanding of data protection compliance would be desirable, the successful post holder will benefit from expert guidance from our externally appointed Data Protection Officer.  They will also work with our data improvement officers to deliver improvements in our data recording, records management and data governance.

We believe that data is important because we use it to build a picture of the challenges faced by people across Scotland which informs our work to drive positive social change.  For example during the pandemic we worked with government and made recommendations backed up by our data which delivered real results for people particularly in areas such as housing and debt.  As an organisation committed to the realisation of human rights we also understand the importance of managing this data in a responsible way in order to protect the rights of people who come to us looking for advice.  This job is an opportunity to work at the heart of Scotland’s biggest advice provider network and to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Employee benefits

For more details of some of the other benefits on offer to our employees, please see the section on employee benefits in the job pack.

CAS provides options for blended working to allow employees to balance their time attending the office with time working from home.  The number of days you will be able to work from home each week will be dependent on your job role and can be discussed as part of the recruitment process.
