More about the job
Main Purpose: To provide Advice Specialist Level Debt Advice, assistance and negotiation to clients under the remit of the North Lanarkshire Community Legal Services project.
North Lanarkshire Community Legal Service
North Lanarkshire Community Legal Service is grant funded by the Scottish Legal Aid Board and managed by Airdrie Citizens Advice Bureau in partnership with Motherwell and Wishaw CAB.
Under the grant fund, the project employs one full time solicitor, one full time legal administrator, one lay representative, three part time debt advisers, two part time debt administrators, one part time coordinator and one part time simplified procedure adviser. The project also employs an additional full time solicitor and part time legal administrator as part of our initiative of developing Lanarkshire Community Law Centre.
The main aim of the grant funded project is to assist those facing homelessness through mortgage repossession and repossession of a tenancy either by referring clients to an appropriate source of assistance or by providing assistance directly through NLCLS Advisers and Solicitors. We assess eligibility for legal aid and refer clients to a local solicitor. If clients are not eligible for Legal Aid, we may be able to provide Legal Advice and/or representation on matters within our remit. We also offer additional debt advice through our Debt Advisers.
Our In-court Advice Service can provide information on the court procedures and negotiate with the other party in the action. We help clients prepare their case assisting with the completion of court documents. In some cases we will provide representation in Court or refer clients to the appropriate agency/organisation.
Our North Lanarkshire Community Legal Service Simplified Procedure Adviser can provide information relating to court practice and procedure or may refer clients to another agency/organisation where appropriate. The Simplified Procedure Adviser may be able to provide representation in limited circumstances.
