    Citizens Advice Scotland have said the welfare cuts in today’s Budget will impact most sharply on those who are least able to cope, and that more people may be forced into poverty and foodbanks as a result.

    Ayr Academy emerged victorious from this year’s Scottish Young Consumer Quiz Final, and will go on to represent Scotland in the UK final. The 2015 event, held at the Scottish Parliament, was the third Young Consumer competition in a row that Citizens Advice Scotland’s Community Action Team has supported. CAS CEO Margaret Lynch formally opened the competition, as well as handing out certificates and prizes to all participants at the end of proceedings.

    A hard-hitting film shot by teenage Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) volunteers and a BAFTA Award-winning producer has been released. Attended by staff and volunteers from CABs across Roxburgh, Berwickshire and the Borders, the premiere of The Domino Effect  took place at the Filmhouse in Hawick. The film depicts a young soldier’s downward spiral and eventual redemption, sparked by a visit to his local bureau.

    A Members’ Business Debate held in Holyrood on 10th October focused on the Youthinfo@CAB project from the Roxburgh and Berwickshire CAB.  Both this project amd others aimed at and by young people across the Scottish CAB network received tremendous praise from MSPs from all five parties represented at the Scottish Parliament.  Staff and the voluntary aspect of the whole Scottish CAB service also won plaudits from the MSPs in attendance, as well as from the Minister for Children and Young People.

    MSPs from all parties today highlighted the work of the Scottish CAB service in providing ‘lifeline’ support to young Scots. 

    As more and more young Scots struggle to find jobs and homes, the CAB service has been running a number of specific projects across Scotland to offer them practical help. A number of these projects were identified by MSPs in a debate at Holyrood today.
