Citizens Advice Scotland has responded to the Business Innovation and Skills consultation on consumer protection from unfair trading regulations.
Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) generally welcome any move by the government to allow for consumers to take action against traders where they feel that they have been a victim of misleading or aggressive sales practices. Recent statistics from CAS show that the Citizens Advice Consumer Service took over 2900 calls from Scottish consumers in the six months between April and September 2013 regarding aggressive or misleading selling and unfair business practices (see table for a further breakdown). We have made some specific comments relating to access to legal action, digital content coverage and vulnerable consumers.
