Funded by HMRC, North Ayrshire Citizens Advice Service (NACAS) is looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic individual who has a thirst for interesting, varied and challenging work to assist in the delivery of our HMRC Advice Project.

As an HMRC specialist adviser you will work as part of a highly motivated team, required to deliver advice and assistance to HMRC customers. This may include looking into matters of PAYE, claims for Special Relief and Appeals, Tax returns and other complex HMRC enquiries, Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits and Child Benefit and any other relevant benefits.

To equip you with all the skills you will need, NACAS will provide you with extensive training and support, enabling you to produce high quality and hard hitting results for the clients you see.

Your main duties will include:

  • Successfully delivering one-to-one and group sessions offering advice and assistance to HMRC customers on matters of PAYE, claims for Special Relief and Appeals, Tax returns and other complex HMRC enquiries, Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits and Child Benefit and any other relevant benefits.
  • Delivering project awareness to all partner agencies and workplaces and agree robust referral procedures
  • Providing specialist advice support to the bureau operations
  • Possible SSAT tribunal representation and preparation of cases.
  • Completing accurate records for all clients seen and ensuring all related paperwork and correspondence is filed appropriately in compliance with NACAS confidentiality procedures and report as required
  • To ensure all casework is completed to a high standard in accordance with NACAS procedures and submitted timeously.
  • To attend all meetings as directed by the Chief Executive or delegated Manager.
  • To undertake any other tasks as directed by the CEO, or delegated Manager.

It is essential that all applicants have:

  • Knowledge of complex HMRC matters
  • Extensive knowledge of Benefits in particular; Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits and Child Benefit
  • Ability to co-coordinate, extract and analyse data efficiently and accurately
  • Have a high degree of attention to detail
  • Willingness to undertake appropriate further training as required
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload and deliver to deadline
  • Ability to work as part of a team

Additional Information:

  • The hours of duty are 35 hours per week, between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, with 5 working weeks holiday.
  • This role may involve travelling to and attendance at meetings throughout the region.  The job holder will therefore be required to be flexible in approach and to travel as required.

  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo Basic Disclosure Scotland Check prior to a formal offer of employment being made
