About the job

Greater Pollok CAB is seeking a Community Information Worker on a fixed term contract until 30 June 2017.

This post is funded by the Development Committee of Citizens Advice Scotland and has a Glasgow-wide remit.

This is a very public facing position and it is about gathering information from organisations across the city that provide services and support that could be helpful to people in hardship then making that information readily available to people in hardship or at risk of hardship and supporting them to access services/support.

The post is about creating and updating a comprehensive information system about sources of support and help and then pro-actively and effectively supporting members of the public to access help.

• Gather information from organisations across Glasgow about the services they provide for example services that help people maximise their income; make the most of the money they have including best deals on energy, eating on low budgets, how to best manage money; access affordable credit, get white goods at lower costs as well as services that help people get jobs or offer emotional support.

• Make such information available in different formats

• Agree signposting and referral mechanisms for Project clients with organisations

• Develop and run “Community Access Points” in a mixture of locations across the city including supermarkets, libraries, credit unions, community events, so that members of the public can get information and advice about available support and help

• Deliver presentations and talks about available support and help to groups, for example, faith groups, voluntary/community organisations and housing associations

• Promote the Project widely and effectively using a variety of methods including local press and established networks

• Provide advice and information about welfare benefits, debt, and housing to customers and refer more complex cases to the appropriate Citizens Advice Bureau

• Identify trends in the kinds of problems that people bring to bureau

• Provide statistical information on the number of clients and nature of cases and provide regular reports to the Managers of all Glasgow Citizens Advice Bureaux

• Abide by health and safety guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues.

• Support and work with a small number of volunteers who will contribute to the Project.

• Some evening and weekend work will be required
