Knowing your Rights: employment issues facing young people

Perth CAB is campaigning to increase young people's knowledge of employment rights and to let them know where to access advice.

Sarah Mitchell from Perth CAB has launched a campaign focusing on young people and employment rights. The campaign aims to find out more about the problems young people come up against in the workplace, as well as raising the profile of Perth CAB so young people know where to go to get advice.

Sarah wanted to do something more to help the young people who come into the CAB seeking employment advice. She felt that with unemployment high amongst young people in the region, it is important that young people understand their employment rights so that they don’t suffer once they find a job due to a lack of knowledge.

This briefing sheet explains the employment issues young people bring to Perth CAB, as well as discussing the economic backdrop in Perth & Kinross. The briefing has been launched alongside an online survey seeking the experiences and thoughts of young people in the workplace which will run throughout August. The results from the survey will be released later in the year.
