Child maintenance reforms

A briefing paper on the 2007 replacement of the Child Support Agency with the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission.  

The last Westminster Government recognised that there were deep-rooted problems with the Child Support Agency and, in December 2006, announced that the agency would be replaced by a new body – the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission (CMEC).

Citizens Advice Scotland welcomed the direction of reform. However, we were concerned that, unless underlying issues around case management, communication and inflexibility are addressed, the new system would replicate existing problems.
